Description

This project was part of Graphic Design Masterclass - Learn GREAT Design on Udemy.com. The objective was to create a logo for a new short form video mobile app, like TikTok.

Process

The first step was to brainstorm ideas for the logo by doing a word map exercise. From the word map, I gleaned that elements of a squirrel and waveform would be logical elements for the logo. Squirrels are fast, energetic, and playful matching the dynamic, fast-paced vibe of a platform like TikTok. It hit on the idea of "short attention span, but in a good way". It had a curious, cute and mischievous personality which was perfect. Waveform represents voice, communication, and technology, and is very recognizable. The second step was to start the design process. I went straight to Adobe Illustrator for this one, and used free stock image website to draw inspiration for how to draw a clean, modern, minimalist squirrel face. I created the wave form using Adobe Illustrator's distort/transform zig zag function, and the blend tool. The third step involved selected the typography and color scheme. I chose vibrant and neon colors as this will be mostly a digital design, which resonated with the young target audience. Neon pink and purple fit well because of their youthful, trendy, attention grabbing, and night-life/digital glow characteristics. I chose a clean, approachable, friendly san-serif font, which is perfect for the tech space as well. The final step was to create some mockups in photoshops exhibiting how successful the design would be on mobile devices.

Reflection

Designing this logo pushed me to think about how to visually represent energy, speed, and digital culture in a way that feels both playful and modern. I wanted the brand to feel instantly engaging, like the content it supports—short, vibrant, and full of personality. The choice of a squirrel as the brand symbol came from exploring traits like agility, curiosity, and spontaneity, which mirror how users interact with short-form video. The neon pink and purple color scheme helped reinforce that bold, digital-native feel. This project reminded me how much power a logo can carry—not just in aesthetics, but in tone, emotion, and cultural alignment.
