Carbon Color
Project Type: Logo Redesign
client: Mock Client (Real Company)
role: Graphic designer
tools used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Description
This project began as a logo redesign exploration for a potential client who reached out to me on Fiverr. Although I was not selected for the project, I saw it as an opportunity to refine my skills in real-world logo design. The original Carbon Color logo had scalability and readability issues due to its perspective-based layout and disjointed arrangement of elements. My redesign focused on creating a modern, versatile logo with a balanced structure that would work seamlessly across various applications. The final concept introduces a bold, geometric typeface paired with a hexagonal brand mark, symbolizing carbon’s molecular structure. The color palette of black and purple was chosen to represent strength, innovation, and trustworthiness in the printing and design industry.
Process
I started by critically analyzing the original logo, identifying its strengths and limitations. My assessment revealed issues with perspective alignment, scalability, and visual coherence. With these challenges in mind, I began sketching concepts that would bring balance and clarity to the design. I selected a strong geometric typeface for "CARBON," aiming for boldness and clean lines that enhance readability. "COLOR" was designed to intersect vertically in a grid-like fashion, reinforcing the concept of structured design. The brand mark is represented by a hexagon symbol, inspired by the molecular arrangement of carbon atoms. This choice was both symbolic and practical, as it reflects the scientific nature of printing technology while adding a unique visual element. Within the hexagon, I included a color splash motif to emphasize the "color" aspect of the brand. To further align with principles of color psychology, I chose purple to convey creativity and modernity, while black suggests reliability and precision. I also tested the design using the "would you wear it on your hat" method, validating its simplicity and recognizability at smaller scales.
Reflection
Although this project did not move forward with the client, it served as an invaluable exercise in professional logo redesign. I learned the importance of analyzing a brand's existing identity to identify pain points and improve clarity and scalability. This experience also reinforced my appreciation for symbolic design—integrating elements like the hexagon to represent carbon's molecular structure added layers of meaning to the mark. Through this redesign, I developed a deeper understanding of real-world application testing, ensuring that logos remain impactful across different formats and platforms.
