Description

This project involved a speculative redesign of the Trendsetters Flooring & Countertops logo. The original design featured a cattle skull with a rough circular border and handwritten script, which felt more aligned with a bar or boutique rather than a flooring and remodeling business. My redesign aimed to align the brand's visuals with its industry, emphasizing strength, reliability, and Texan craftsmanship. The new logo maintains the cattle skull for regional identity but incorporates a bold, geometric pattern reminiscent of flooring tiles. The typography is updated to a modern, approachable font, while the circular border is enhanced with a rugged texture for visual impact. To further emphasize trust and professionalism, I introduced a balanced, triangular arrangement of stars, symbolizing quality and craftsmanship.

Process

To begin, I conducted a detailed analysis of the original logo, identifying areas for improvement. I noted that the handwritten script and ornate skull design did not align with the rugged and practical nature of flooring and remodeling. Inspired by Texan aesthetics and the client’s industry, I sketched out concepts that retained the skull motif but in a more structured, geometric form. The redesigned skull pattern is stylized with straight lines, representing both modernity and flooring patterns, making it more fitting for the brand's services. For typography, I replaced the cursive style with bold, clean lettering that is more legible and professional, communicating strength and reliability. I wrapped the business name around the circular mark, echoing the original design's layout but with better readability and balance. Color adjustments included a switch to a deep teal for its associations with trust and stability. The final design is versatile, working effectively in both color and pure black-and-white, and remains visually strong even at smaller scales.

Reflection

This project challenged me to think critically about brand alignment and symbolism. By reshaping the cattle skull into a structured, geometric form, I was able to preserve the regional touchstone while making it relevant to the business's industry. I learned the importance of aligning visual identity with business services, ensuring that the logo communicates both trust and craftsmanship. This redesign reinforced my belief that even small adjustments in typography and iconography can significantly shift brand perception toward professionalism and reliability.
