Description

This project was inspired by the 2024 U.S. presidential election and my fascination with political structures and civic processes. I designed a comprehensive infographic titled Elections Explained to demystify how voting works in America, the structure of the U.S. government, and the core beliefs of the major political parties. My goal was to present complex information in a visually engaging and easily digestible format, leveraging clear hierarchy, color coding, and iconography to enhance understanding.

Process

I began by outlining the main sections I wanted to cover: the structure of the U.S. government, voting schedules, the Electoral College, and party platforms. Using Adobe Illustrator, I built custom vector graphics and icons to represent key elements, such as government branches, election cycles, and political symbols. I applied strong color contrasts—red, white, and blue—to maintain a patriotic theme and guide the viewer through the various sections. Careful attention was paid to visual hierarchy, ensuring that each concept flowed logically into the next. Typography choices were made to enhance readability while still conveying a sense of formality and significance.

Reflection

This project deepened my appreciation for infographics as a tool for education and engagement. Breaking down complex political processes into clean, visually structured layouts solidified my understanding of visual storytelling and reinforced my commitment to clear, accessible design. Elections Explained not only broadened my skills in Illustrator but also served as a meaningful way to contribute to civic understanding.
